Make It Easy to Remember and Spell

If your domain name is hard for most people to remember, you may be losing a high percentage of potential visitors right off the bat. How can they go to your site if they can’t even remember the name? For example, see which of the following addresses you would find easier to remember; lawnmowersofmiamifla.com or miamimowers.com. The second one is a lot shorter, and at just two words it’s more likely to be recalled by customers. The old saying, “keep it simple, stupid” comes to mind. Of course, not all rememberable names are available, but if possible, you should spend some time trying to find one.
Ideally for a domain name, you would want to use easy to remember words that are also easy to spell. For a spelling example, let’s say you’re a lawyer with the name of Karl Krzyzewski. You would probably think that the most obvious domain name for you would be karlkrzyzewski.com or karlkrzyzewskilaw.com. In a way, yes, but realistically, how many people will know how to spell your last name? The best most can do is type in their best guess in Google and then let it suggest the name that they’re going for. Of course, to get the “Did you mean…” suggestion from Google, they would have to guess the spelling fairly closely. Contrast this with one of your competitor’s names, Dan Johnson. I’d say it’s much more easier to remember how to spell danjohnson.com than karlkrzyzewski.com. Wouldn’t you agree?
Web users may be inclined to just type in the site they already know how to spell instead of the one that they don’t. It’s human nature to go the easier route and I wouldn’t be surprised if you’d lose some customers due to your potentially hard-to-spell name. Of course your last name is important in such a professional field as law, but you may want to come up with a creative domain name that reflects your service, but doesn’t use your hard to spell last name.
Make it easy for your customers, and potential customers, to find you. Otherwise, they may find your competitors instead!
